Hanlie Wentzel obtained her qualification as a Social Worker with a BA (Hons) Social Work Degree from the University of Stellenbosch (1996) in Individual Therapy, Group Work and Community Development. This includes a BA Degree in Psychology. She also studied Arts Therapies Counseling at the Art Healing Academy in South Africa.

Hanlie has experience in various fields of service delivery that include Child and Family Care (Child neglect and abuse, Behavior difficult children, Crisis pregnancy counseling, Family violence, Grief counseling, Marriage and divorce counseling, Foster Care, Open Adoptions and HIV/Aids Counseling). She also specialized in Addictions Counseling on an outpatient and inpatient basis with individual and group therapy for alcohol and drug addiction, as well as codependency counseling for the family of the addict. She also has over 18 years experience as a Christian Counselor.
